My De Beauvoir Diaries - My Non-traditional wedding dressMorning you lovely lot. I hope you are all doing well and enjoying some nice weather wherever you may be. It’s not stopped raining in London recently, but the sun is finally shining today and it’s making me a whole lot happier!

You may have seen on my Instagram that I got married a few weeks ago in Las Vegas. I chose to wear a non-traditional black wedding dress (shock horror!) and I just wanted to explain why I made that decision.

I have seen so many lovely ladies get married in big beautiful white dresses which looked absolutely stunning. However, this style of dress, although perfect for some, was definitely not the right decision for me. I would never normally wear a white dress, or even a dress for that matter, lol. So the thought of wearing one on my wedding day filled me with dread. I even considering wearing a trouser suit, but I didn’t manage to find one that I liked enough.

I did feel under pressure to wear something slightly more traditional (e.g. white), but after searching for, ordering and trying on several dresses; all of which I hated and felt very uncomfortable in. I decided to go with my heart and wear something that was more ‘me’ and suited my personality down to the ground. After all, it was my wedding day; I should be able to wear what I want, right?

For me, black is sophisticated, classy and always effortlessly chic. Black is my all time go-to colour (well, its not technically a colour. But you know what I mean), I have never regretted buying anything in black and I certainly didn’t on this occasion either. So, after finally making a decision to go with something darker, I quickly and excitedly started looking online. It didn’t take me long before I came across this Vivienne Westwood Anglomania ‘Eight’ dress on Net-a-Porter. As soon as it arrived, I loved it, it fitted me like glove and was exactly what I was looking for. Yippee!

On the day, I paired it with my new Chanel bag (obviously) and a pair of black sandals from Zara. I was so happy that I chose to go with a black dress; it was elegant and understated, while still being pretty and ‘fancy’ enough to be a wedding dress.

Here are some photo’s that we took after the ceremony. We did have professional photos taken too but we decided to only get them in print. I will soon be writing a post all about the day with photos from the ceremony and chapel too.

Would you wear a non-traditional wedding dress? I’d love to hear your thoughts xxxx

I love this dress lady! SO glad you went for a dress that felt right for you, and not one that you felt you had to conform to wearing – good on you (helps that it looks SO fab too!).

Yay go you! This looks stunning! I hate the idea of a traditional wedding dress too and have been desperate to elope to Vegas. Unfortunately we will have to get married in England coz a Vegas wedding would upset too many people but you’ve inspired me to be more confident in my choice of dress. You looked stunning 🙂

Oh I’m all on board for going for a non-traditional wedding dress, especially considering I literally never wear dresses so just the thought of wearing a dress in general would be enough for me.

  • This dress looks amazing! Love the fact you went for a black one!
