I’m sat here, writing this post, feeling guilty about spending money on myself. Doh! I do this a lot, it’s not always after buying something really expensive either, it could a meal out with friends or a £5 lipstick.
However, 2nd January 2017 is the day that this is going to stop! Hopefully. I’m sure I’m not alone here, do you ever feel like this? I know I have friends that tell me that they ‘feel the guilt’ after treating themselves to something nice too, and I’m always quick to tell them to stop being silly, so it’s about time I took my own advice.
First I will explain the reason behind this pang of guilt, which you’ve probably guessed by now, I bought this stunning Proenza Schouler PS11 in the Liberty London sale. My bad.
Did I really need another handbag? Nope. Was a being ridiculous after receiving the bag of my dreams only a couple of days before for Christmas? Maybe, but who cares. I’ve had my eye on it a while and was actually going to buy it a month or so ago, but stopped myself (well done Hayley). So when I swung by the shops the day after boxing day and it was HALF PRICE, how could I not buy it?!
Let’s start the new year as we mean to go on girls! and boys for that matter. This is why we should stop feeling guilty about spending money on ourselves…
We work hard
Personally, I know I worked my arse off in 2016. I have a full-time 9-5 job, work freelance outside of those hours and also work on this blog/social media for hours, every single day. If all that hard work doesn’t deserve a treat every now and then, then I don’t know what does.
If you work hard for your money, be good and save some, but also make sure to TREAT YO’ SELF!
People will judge you no matter what you do
This is my biggest problem, I worry about what others think of me. Especially now I share lots about my life online, it’s easy for people to get the wrong end of the stick and for them to assume that you must be rich or super selfish spending £100’s or £1000’s on material things like handbags, but this really isn’t the case.
If people want to judge your life, they will. Let them go ahead, do not worry about it. Which brings me on to my next point.
Life is short, do what makes YOU happy
Stop worrying about others and do something for yourself. If you want to spend your money, spend it. If you want to save, save, save, then do that. Personally, I like to do a little bit of both.
Whatever the reason is behind your guilt, I am sure it’s not needed. Let’s support each other in 2017 and put those feelings of guilt behind us.
Anyway, do you think I’ve justified this purchase enough? I do, I can get on with my day now. Bye.
